3 Tips For Caring For A Human Hair Wig

Beauty & Fashion Blog

Having a wig that is made completely out of human hair is an excellent investment, if for one reason or another, your regular hair is non-existent, thinning, balding, etc. However, because a human hair wig is made out of real hair, it is important that you treat the wig much like you would your natural hair. This will ensure that your wig stays looking good and that it will last you for a long time. There are certain tips to keep your wig in the best condition possible, and this article will discuss 3 of these tips in more detail.

Comb Hair When Conditioner Is In It

When you place the conditioner in your hair, this is one of the best times to try and comb it out. The conditioner will act as a detangling agent, thus making it easier to remove any tangles that are currently in place. When brushing out the tangles, you will want to start at the tips of the hair and work your way to the roots. This ensures that you don't pull out any hair unnecessarily, by starting at the top and ripping it out on the way down.  Once the tangles are all combed out, you can then carefully rinse out the conditioner.

Use A Heat Protectant

Since your wig is made out of human hair, you can blow it dry with a blow dryer. However, in order to protect the hair from some of the damage that comes along with heat, you can use a heat protectant. This is generally a spray that you can spray right onto your hair, and it will protect it from the heat of blow dryers, straighteners, etc. You can spray the protectant on your hair as soon as you are done towel drying it, and you can give it a couple of minutes to sink into the follicles of the hair.

Use A Wig Stand

When you are combing, blow drying, straightening, curling, or otherwise styling your wig, you should use a wig stand. A wig stand is a stand that was specifically created to hold your wig in a secure position while you are caring for it. The wig stand is much like a head in that the wig attaches to it and the hair hangs down. This frees up both of your hands, allowing you to do whatever you need to in terms of styling the hair.
